Babcock to make important change to lineup as Leafs run out of time ahead of postseason

For a rare time in NHL history, the Montreal Canadiens were cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs last night as they could have helped the Habs in their playoff quest if they managed to get a win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

That did not happen. The Hurricanes came out with desperation and exited 4-1 winners. While the Leafs have clinched a spot and already know they will once again face the Boston Bruins in the first round of the postseason in a few weeks, the playoff picture remains incomplete in the East with the tight race between the Canadiens, Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets.

However, something else seems to be missing and that is a good push for the Leafs in the last two games of the regular calendar. It sounds like it means head coach Mike Babcock will tune-up the lineup in their last home game Thursday against Tampa Bay as well as their visit to Montreal on Saturday.

According to James Mirtle of The Athletic, Babcock hinted at the possibility of dressing seven defensemen for next game after last night's loss. Before last night's loss, Babcock also confirmed Frederik Andersen will play versus Tampa and in Montreal.

Leafs new blue liner Calle Rosen didn’t look out of place in back-to-back starts and the TSN Quiz panel voted him as the best choice for a seventh man on the back end.

This could be a welcomed solution in Toronto...
