Backes breaks former teammate Pietrangelo’s heart ahead of Stanley Cup final

They’ll be buddies after this... right?

We now have a rematch 49 years in the making.

The Bruins will face the Blues in the Stanley Cup final, which kicks off on Monday, however this time around, St. Louis will come out to fight and stop Boston in its tracks.

This means that former teammates and close friends Alex Pietrangelo and David Backes will face one another for the first time at these high stakes and the Blues captain wanted to make sure everything was good before the ultimate series kicks off.

And so Pietrangelo decided to reach out to Backes, the former Blues captain before Alex took over. He sent him a text message and reach out to his buddy ahead of the action.

Unfortunately for him, Backes isn’t on the same page.

Pietrangelo told Blues team insider Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic that he sent Backes a message on Wednesday saying I guess we’ll be friends again in two weeks. However, Backes never responded.

“So I guess it’s already started…” said Pietrangelo.

Ouch! Brutal move by Backes…

It’s clear that the Bruins is now focused on winning the Stanley Cup and won’t let anyone - including close friend Pietrangelo - hinder that.

While Pietrangelo might find it hard to swallow, we are pretty sure he completely gets it.

Cup before bros…
