We are sending them positive thoughts.

We can all appreciate the courage and intensity of Nick Foligno as the captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, however, he faces more adversity off the ice as one of his children is again seriously sick.

While he is expected to be in the lineup for the Columbus Blue Jackets against the New York Islanders, Foligno has spent missed the past four games because his 22-month-old son, Hudson, was hospitalized March 11 after contracting pneumonia so severe that his right lung collapsed four days later.

Earlier this season, the Blue Jackets captain missed five games earlier because of health concerns for his 5-year-old daughter, Milana, who was born with a congenital heart defect. He missed a game at Carolina on Nov. 17 because she had a virus, and she later went heart procedure, and he missed four contests from Dec. 31-Jan. 8.

So we are definitely hoping his kids will get better, not for him to miss less games but for the family to be healthy and happy.

Foligno revealed that he has spent much of the past two weeks at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus with his wife, Janelle, and at one point slept on a couch there four nights in a row. His son is off a ventilator but remains in the intensive care unit at the moment. He didn't want to be away from his family at this important time.

"When you see your kid that age fighting, no kid should have to be on a breathing ventilator or dealing with this at that young an age," he told reporters on Tuesday. "He's not the only one. You see other families and people in there; it just makes you appreciate the life you have and the health you have."

While Foligno says he is happy to be back with his second family for tonight's contest, we know that his main focus will always be on his wife, daughter and son.

Let's all wish him the best.
