Bad news for Bergeron & Marchand ahead of big game against the Habs.

The Boston Bruins picked up a huge win in Montreal this week when they absolutely trounced their bitter rivals the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 8 - 1. It was unquestionably the most embarrassing loss of the season for the Habs, much to the delight of long time fans of the Boston Bruins, but the Habs will get their chance at revenge in short order and it sounds like the Bruins may be fighting an uphill battle.

On Saturday Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke to the media and it was during that media availability that he provided updates on several of his players, including a few unexpected and unwanted surprises. First, Cassidy revealed that injured forward Patrice Bergeron was still dealing with a nagging injury that has kept him out of the lineup at different points this season already, confirming that Bergeron would not play on Sunday against the Canadiens in front of the Bruins home crowd. That news of course is hugely disappointing not only because Bergeron remains arguably the most valuable player on the Bruins roster, but also simply due to the fact that he will be sitting out yet another home game due to injury.

The big surprise however came when Cassidy revealed that notorious Boston Bruins' agitator Brad Marchand was also running the risk of missing Sunday's game against the Habs. Unlike Bergeron Marchand has managed to keep himself from suffering any injuries, but it sounds like his health could come into play regardless. Cassidy stated on Saturday that Marchand has been playing through some type of illness, one he described as "flu-like symptoms," over the past two days. Marchand was able to play through it but when you consider that Cassidy is now disclosing this information publicly it seems reasonable to suggest that Marchand may have gotten worse over the last 24 hours.

Cassidy added that he will once again asses where Marchand is at and how he is feeling on Sunday and will likely make his final determination on whether or not he plays at that time. If you're looking for a silver lining to all this bad news, Cassidy did also report that Bruins veterans David Backes and John Moore are "very close to returning."
