On Wednesday night, the Rangers earned a convincing win over the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden. Overcoming the number one team in the league by a score of 4-1 is no small victory, but perhaps an even greater moment of joy arose as those who were present at the game had the opportunity to witness an incredibly touching moment between a father and his son.

A young Rangers fan named Luke was interviewed by a member of the Rangers' media team as he was about to receive one of the special edition jerseys made to honour the military. What he did not expect was that the jersey would be delivered to him by someone who he hadn't seen in a long time.

Luke's father who, a member of the U.S. military who had just come back from a mission in Afghanistan and lifelong Rangers fanatic surprised him as he got to give him the special commemoratory jersey as he reunited with him in front of a cheerful crowd at the MSG. Father and son shared a heartfelt and emotional hug in what was a very touching moment.

The expression on Luke's face as he saw his father running down the stairs to greet him was absolutely priceless. It was enough to bring joy to any person who lucky enough to have witnessed the scene. Even a few days later, one cannot help but shed a tear while watching the event unfold.

The NHL's initiative to honour war veterans, our fallen brothers and sisters and those who so bravely put their lives on the line for our freedom every day is a wonderful and important gesture. It reminds us that some things are bigger than Hockey, than rivalry and entertainment.

We would like to thanks Luke's father from the very bottom of out hearts for his bravery and his service. We would also like to thank the NHL and the New York Rangers for reuniting this family and for bringing tears of joy to our eyes.

Hockey truly does bring people together!
