Ever since veteran defenseman Ben Lovejoy has announced that he is retiring from the National Hockey League after 11 seasons, so much love has been sent out to the blue liner on social.

The 35-year-old made his retirement official during a broadcast on NHL Network on Wednesday night, but also posted a picture of him and the perfect Michael Scott quote from the show The Office.

“I declare retirement.”

Many fans started to remind Lovejoy’s best career moments and several of them posted the video from the Road To The Winter Classic when his face was swollen on the plane.

It is a hilarious bit that showed us why every teammate and fan love this guy.

Lovejoy, known as the Reverend across the league (The Simpsons), was inspiring to many in the league after he broke into the NHL undrafted, joining the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2008-09 season. He managed to win a Stanley Cup with the Penguins back in 2016, contributing two goals and six points while averaging 17:46 of ice time over 24 playoff contests.

After his tenure with the Pens, he also played for Anaheim Ducks and the New Jersey Devils before finishing his career with the Dallas Stars in 2018-19 after he ended up in Texas at the trade deadline.

He put up a total of 20 goals and 101 points over 544 career games.
