This just in courtesy of Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty, Bruins forwards Patrice Bergeron and Brett Ritchie will NOT join the team for their two game road trip this week, citing recurring injuries. As a result the team has called up Jack Studnicka and Brendan Gaunce from the AHL’s Providence Bruins.

Check it out:

Bergeron and Ritchie both played this past weekend against the Minnesota Wild and, in fact, Bergeron put up an incredible four points in the contest. The 34 year old Bergeron has an outstanding eight goals and 24 points in 21 games with the Bruins this season, but it’s clear that this lingering lower-body injury is affecting him despite his production.

As for Ritchie, he has apparently been dealing with an infection that has prevented him from playing regularly. He has two goals and four points in 15 games so far this season.

Update: The Bruins have confirmed the call-ups of both Studnicka and Gaunce, while head coach Bruce Cassidy has also confirmed Bergeron’s absence from the road-trip.

Suffice it to say that losing Bergeron is a HUGE blow to this team and it's not something that Bergeron's teammates take lightly. Check out these words from Bruins veterans Zdeno Chara and Brad Marchand on losing their top line pivot for at least the next two games:

Zdeno Chara on being without Patrice Bergeron for the upcoming road trip: "It’s challenging...it’s a player that’s very hard to replace. He’s been such a valued player for a long time in this organization."

Marchand on playing without Patrice Bergeron: "A little more pressure defensively when Bergy’s out. You realize how good he is at both ends of the rink and what he does to shut down other teams’ top lines."

David Krejci receives a promotion to the Bruins' first line with Bergeron on the outside, while Par Lindholm will draw back into the lineup for Ritchie. Here's how the Bruins are expected to line up for tomorrow's contest against the Montreal Canadiens:

Brad Marchand - David Krejci - David Pastrnak
Jake DeBrusk - Charlie Coyle - Danton Heinen
