Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier has been named the Selke Trophy winner as the NHL's best defensive forwarding during the 2019-20 season.

Couturier, of course, edged out 2019 Selke Award winner Ryan O'Reilly of the St. Louis Blues and Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins to claim his first major NHL award.

Bergeron was set to create a new record for Selke Trophy winning seasons with five were he to have beaten Couturier and O'Reilly. He and Montreal Canadiens legend Bob Gainey are deadlocked at four Selke Trophies apiece. A nine-time finalist for the award, Bergeron ranked fourth league-wide in face-off winning percentage (57.9 percent; minimum 750 attempts) and third in defensive-zone face-off winning percentage (58.4 percent).
