If you've ever wondered why National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman has reservations about putting more teams in the Canadian market, a recent interview might give you some insight into his thought process.
During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Bettman made a stunning revelation when it comes to just how much of an impact the decline in the Canadian dollar had on the 2015-2016 National Hockey League season, stating that the league would be losing hundreds of millions of dollars.
“It’s a fact of life, it’s something we deal with,” said Bettman. “If the Canadian dollar were still at par, we’d be $100 million or $200 million higher, perhaps, than we may find ourselves, but I do believe there will be a revenue increase over 2015.”
Even an organization as big as the NHL can't help but take notice of such a massive financial loss, and you can be sure it's a major factor when it comes to the NHL contemplating expansion into more Canadian markets.
Here's the full interview.
