Bettman once again denies link to CTE after demands from U.S. Senator.
Keystone Press.

The National Hockey League's commissioner may be a little man, but he's got some big stones.

After receiving heavy pressure from a United States Senator to admit the link between contact sports like the one the NHL oversees and CTE(Chronic traumatic encephalopathy), Gary Bettman refused to back down from his stance.

From John Branch of the New York Times:

“The science regarding C.T.E., including on the asserted ‘link’ to concussions that you reference, remains nascent, particularly with respect to what causes C.T.E. and whether it can be diagnosed by specific clinical symptoms,” Mr. Bettman wrote.

He added: “The relationship between concussions and the asserted clinical symptoms of C.T.E. remains unknown.”

There's no doubt that the comments from Senator Richard Blumenthal were politically motivated, but nonetheless they shine an important light on a very serious issue for the NHL, this despite the fact that major league's like the National Football League have already admitted there is a link, and have taken financial responsibility.
