With all the noise surrounding Jacob Trouba today one big time trade rumor has flown under the radar.

According to a report from Mike Russo of the Star Tribune, the top guy in the National Hockey League when it comes to inside knowledge of the wheeling and dealing of the Wild organization, the Wild have had talks with the Buffalo Sabres regarding the possibility of acquiring troubled forward Evander Kane.

From Russo:

I can only say that I’ve been told by multiple sources multiple times that there were trade talks. But you can assume that in order to add $5.25 million in salary (even if salary/cap space were retained), it would have had to be a “hockey trade.”

There was speculation that the Sabres were looking to trade Kane since he once again found himself in legal trouble this summer, but this is the first real confirmation from an extremely credible insider that the Sabres are in fact headed in that direction.

No word from Russo on what the Wild were offering in this deal, but it's worth nothing that defenseman Matt Dumba has been the player who's name has come up most frequently when it comes to trade rumors in Minnesota.
