New York Islander defenseman Calvin De Haan must have been biting his nails while watching this past week’s negotiations between the fellow RFAs Mika Zibanejad and Nino Niederreiter go down to wire only to strike a deal moments before heading into a courtroom for arbitration hearings. In the end, that’s exactly what De Haan and the Islanders did, as well.
The Islanders announced this morning, literally just moments before De Haan’s scheduled arbitration hearing, that the team and the player had come to terms on a new one-year agreement.
While details of the deal were not released by the club, Islanders insider Arthur Staple is reporting that the deal comes with a $3.3 million cap hit, quite a raise from the $1.95 million offer that was on the table for De Haan earlier this week.
