The Montreal Canadiens got some good news on Saturday regarding the health of one of the most beloved players in the history of their franchise.

As many of our readers will know Habs legend Guy Lafleur was forced into hospital just a few short weeks ago due to the fact that he needed major heart surgery. The news was confirmed on the Montreal Canadiens' official website on the 26th of September at the request of the Lafleur family who released an official statement regarding the news.

"Guy Lafleur underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery earlier this morning at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM). This procedure was necessary after a routine examination detected a cardiac issue. The operation was successful, and doctors predict a full recovery after several months of convalescence. The family wishes to thank the entire medical team, as well as the personnel at the CHUM, and will not issue any further comment."

Needless to say whenever you are talking about a procedure as invasive and intensive as a quadruple bypass heart surgery there is always reason for concern after the fact. That concern had grown in recent weeks as updates on the status of Lafleur were almost non-existent, however on Saturday night we finally got some good news regarding the health of the NHL legend.

According to a report from the National Hockey League's very own Dave Stubbs, it now sounds like the living legend is doing much better. Stubbs is reporting that Lafleur was officially discharged from a Montreal hospital yesterday and is currently back home and working on rebuilding his strength after such an intense procedure. That is of course terrific news and Lafleur even made a very brief statement via text message to thank the fans of the Canadiens and all those from around the league who offered him and his family their kind words of support and encouragement during this very difficult process.

“My thanks to everyone for their incredible support,” said Lafleur as per Stubbs.

Now although Lafleur is back home and recovering there is little doubt that he still has a very long way to go before he will be back to 100%. It may be awhile before we get to do so but I hope we see him back at the Bell Centre sooner rather than later.
