While Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan wouldn't give any indication as to when a new deal will get done, he did drop some very valuable hints that will be viewed as huge news for those following the negotiation.
In a recent interview with TSN's Geno Reda, Monahan talked about his current contract status, as well as that of teammate Johnny Gaudreau with whom he makes up arguably the teams two most valuable forwards in the long term. While Monahan did say that negotiations were ongoing as team and player tried to find common ground on a deal that makes sense for both sides, he also indicated that he wouldn't rule out the possibility of taking a hometown discount to remain in Calgary.
According to Monahan the idea of allowing the organization to have some flexibility to add key pieces that would allow them to field a competitive team is something that make sense yo him, and it sounds like both he and Gaudreau have discussed this very possibility in the past.
If the Flames' top two forwards are willing to sign team friendly deals, it open up some major doors for Calgary.
