The Calgary Flames held a press conference Friday to confirm head coach Bill Peters was not longer holding the position in the organization.

It was expected. Peters has been accused of making racist remarks at former player Akim Aliu during the 2009-10 season with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

On top of that, reports of physical abuse were added to the mix. TSN's Frank Seravelli gave more information, using the comments of former Carolina Hurricanes players who were coached by Peters and it seems like there was also an abuse issue. Former Canaes player Michal Jordan confirms to TSN that there were “multiple” physical altercations between Peters and players in Carolina.

However, Peters is the one who resigned from the position. General manager Brad Treliving announced that Peters handed in his letter of resignation.

I guess we can be somewhat comforted in the fact that Peters realized his actions were unacceptable and needed to leave the organization.

The NHL will keep investigating the matter as they are expected to meet with Aliu in the coming days.
