The name is familiar to you no doubt: Akim Aliu made headlines earlier this season when he accused former Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters of directing racial slurs towards him when both were members of the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks’ top farm team, back in 2009-10.

Following investigations and comments from other former players, the Flames accepted Peters’ letter of resignation a few days later.

There is a new chapter now starting for Aliu: the former defenseman has signed a contract with Czech hockey teamHC Litvinov of theCzech Extraliga, according to TSN’s Frank Seravalli.

He is expected to make his debut with the team on Friday.

Aliu took part in just seven games in the NHL from 2011 to 2013, all with the Flames. He tallied two goals and one assist.

He was with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL last season, scoring four goals and seven assists over 14 games.
