Binnington tells the story of how he basically told Martin Brodeur to “take a hike”

Today’s episode featured St. Louis Blues netminder Jordan Binnington, a guy perfectly made for this show’s laid back atmosphere. Binner shared the absolutely UNREAL story of how he stood up to the legendary Martin Brodeur when the team attempted to demote Binnington to the ECHL and even shared a bit of insight into the rocky beginnings of their relationship.

Check out these quotes below on Brodeur trying to convince Binnington to accept his demotion to the ECHL:

“Marty Brodeur, who is new in the management role, he comes up to me and is talking to me like, ‘Hey, so Binner I talked to them and he’s a great guy…’, so I stopped him and said, ‘You can stop right there, Marty. I’m not going.’ And he’s like, ‘I think you have to go…’”

Then Binnington stops his story to say:

“You know what? Ugh… I don’t want to get into it. Great guy, great goaltender. But I was called up a couple years before and he came out of being like chilling at home to take my spot, took my number and now he’s trying to send me to the Cheddar (ECHL)? Great guy, we have a great relationship still… but uh… from there I said ‘No.’”

Could you imagine talking that way to MARTIN FRICKING BRODEUR? I’d imagine most goalies would just be content to breathe the same air as Marty…

Not Binnington though, this guy is 100% certified BEAUTY.
