The Chicago Blackhawks appear to have found another Eruopean forward that they believe can come help them state side.

According to a breaking news report from Russian hockey insider Igor Eronko of Sports Express, it appears that the Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward Dominik Kubalik. It is unclear at this time if Kubalik has officially signed with the Blackhawks or if the 2 sides merely have a handshake agreement in place, but either way it would seem like Kubalik is now destined to become a member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization.

This is an interesting move on the part of the Blackhawks because Kubalik was definitely a player that had been on the radar of teams in the National Hockey League in the pass. Kubalik was actually selected in the 7th round (191st overall) of the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, although that relationship never really went anywhere. The Czech born Kubalik would play some time in the Ontario Hockey League but eventually would return to the Czech Republic before eventually joining Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss League.

It was his past 2 seasons in the Swiss league that I believe put him back on the radar of NHL teams. In his most recent season he appeared in 50 games and recorded a whopping 25 goals and 32 assists for a total of 57 points, well above a point per game average. Obviously the Swiss League is not played at the same level of hockey in the National Hockey League so those numbers will not translate directly to the NHL, but they are impressive nonetheless.

It has to be noted here that Kubalik is likely a very low risk option for the Blackhawks, so if at 23 years of age he does not pan out for the Blackhawks they are not losing much by taking this gamble. On the other side of the coin though if you lock up a legitimate talent at a young  age you may have just found yourself a low risk, low cost, serviceable forward for many years to come.

Only time will tell of course whether or not this is another diamond in the rough discovered by general manager Stan Bowman.
