Blues sign player to an 8.7 million dollar deal and fans aren't happy.

That probably doesn't feel great.

If you're a professional sports organization and you announce a major signing, it has to be an awful feeling when your fan base responds with pure negativity to the news.

That's exactly what happened today when the St. Louis Blues announced they had signed defenseman Carl Gunnarsson to a three year contract worth $8.7 million. The announcement itself may not have been the source of the disappointment, fans seem particularly upset because they believe this means St. Louis has given up on re-signing soon to be free agent Kevin Shattenkrik, who has demonstrated he's one of the best young defensemen in the NHL.

Of course if you happen to cheer for a team other than the St. Louis Blues' there's something extra to enjoy about this story, the very real possibility that Shattenkirk, who only has one year left on his deal, will become a free agent at the end of next season, and could be traded well before then.

The reactions on social media have been hilarious, and while the Blues probably aren't loving it right now as an outside observer it's quite an enjoyable spectacle, and we've saved some of top reactions to the announcement, all of them negative.
