Earlier this morning we reported the news that Mark Borowiecki would get a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety, well here it is.

The NHL ruled a 2-game suspension for the Ottawa Senators' defenseman. Here's the explanation of the NHL Department of Player Safety as seen on NHL.com

"With sufficient time to avoid or minimize the hit, Borowiecki instead hits forcefully through Toffoli's numbers, driving him dangerously into the glass, this is boarding. It's important to know that while Toffoli is aware that Borowiecki is approaching, he does not turn his back immediatly prior to or simultaneously with the check., in a manner that turns a legal hit into an illegal hit. Borowiecki has ample to avoid or at the very least minimize the impact of his check. Instead, travelling at high speed, Borowiecki uses his arms and drive Toffoli into the glass with significant force."

The NHL Department of Player Safety also took into account the fact that Toffoli wasn't injured on the play and that Mark Borowiecki hasn't been suspended or fined previously in his career.
