Brad Marchand says trash-talking not his thing anymore

Um, sure

This might be the most bizarre statement from Brad Marchand in a while. In an interview with reporters Thursday, the man named both the best and worst trash-talker in the NHL by fellow players numerous times said it’s something he doesn’t really do anymore.

"I don't really trash talk anymore. Too many microphones. Referees too. Too many. It's just not the generation anymore. Nothing I'm really overly interested in anymore."

Yeah, ok. Maybe he doesn’t trash-talk as much as he used to but it’s hard to believe the man known for chirping others on the ice has totally dropped the practice.

In the meantime, Marchand did talk about chirping teammates at practice and said while he does have some fun with them, one person he would never do it with is linemate Patrice Bergeron.

“I absolutely would never, I don’t bite the hand that feeds me. I’m a little smarter than that,” Marchand told NESN. “I think the most we’ve ever got into it is when Pasta and I are getting into it, and Bergy’s gotta yell at both of us to stop yelling at each other.”

“I don’t ever have to tell him to get me a puck because he’s always getting us the puck, but it’s kind of at the point now where we know when we miss a pass to each other,” Marchand explained. ” … There’s always communication back and forth like that, but I would never start an argument with Bergy or yell at him for something like that, but he’s had to give it to me a couple of times.” That last part isn’t surprising at all.
