Brady Tkachuk takes exception to a hit and immediately drops the gloves!

You love to see this kind of spirit from a rookie player.

On Saturday night the Ottawa Senators were taking on the Washington Capitals and although the Capitals appeared to be cruising to a victory after 25 minutes had been played in the game, Washington Capitals defenseman Madison Bowey may have unintentionally lit a spark under the Ottawa Senators.

The second year blue liner was looking to make an impact when he delivered a big body check to Ottawa Senators rookie Brady Tkachuk and it was one that very much rubbed Tkachuk the wrong way. Bowey got his arm up on the initial hit and it seems like that may have been what set off Tkachuk who immediately went after Bowey following the big hit. Tkachuk did not seem all that phased by the hit because in one swift motion he bounced up off the playing surface and dropped his gloves, immediately challenging Bowey to a fight.

In Bowey's defense here Tkachuk did not wait for a response from the Capitals defenseman and instead immediately began throwing heavy punches that were obviously fueled by Tkachuk's anger at the initial body check. That being said though neither man really connected too solidly with their punches as they both seemed to be throwing at awkward angles given the leverage they had on on another.

One last thing to note here, Tkachuk, clearly realizing that his punches were not going to do the job, seized the advantage based on that aforementioned leverage and proceeded to slam Bowey down hard onto the ice. That was likely the most damaging blow of the entire exchange as Bowey seemed to be slow to get to his feet following the hard slam from Tkachuk.
