Brassard makes ridiculous contract demands!

There might be four interested teams, but he dreams BIG!

Derick Brassard is shopping around as an unrestricted free agent and might have gotten some interest earlier this week as the hockey blog Dans Les Coulisses in Montreal reported that he has got four Eastern Conferences teams interested in getting his services.

The four teams are reportedly in the United States and two of them are former clubs for which he played in the past. That would include the Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers.

However, they might now be turned off by his ridiculous contract demands. According to Jason Gregor of TSN 1260, Brassard is seeking a four-year deal at a AAV of $4 millions. That is way more than what he is actually, especially now that he’s 31 years old.

Brassard isn’t the player he once was… He put up a career-best 60 points with the New York Rangers back in 2014-15. The following season, he rang up 27 goals. For the last few years, it’s been downhill from there!

He is a centre who has shown in the past he can both check and score, sure, but has become more of a third-line centre. He remains a good option for that role on the league’s scarce market, but not at that price.

Marcus Johansson was reportedly asking for a five-year deal at a $5 million AVV, but never managed to get that. He signed a two-year, $9-million deal with the Buffalo Sabres over the weekend.

So how can Brassard think he will get as much as he seeks?!

Someone needs to put some sense into him or these interested teams will be looking elsewhere.
