Breaking: 12 players hit the waiver wire on Thursday!
Zuma Press

For the past couple of days, no player, not even Ottawa Senators forward Zack Smith was claimed off waivers, however, 12 more players landed on there on Thursday. We could see one of these get claimed before noon on Friday.

Cap Friendly has provided the list of players who hit the waiver wire on Thursday. The Colorado Avalanche was the most active team, sending four of its players on waivers. The Avalanche had yet to be this active on the waiver wire since the start of the training camp.

Right winger Scott Kosmachuk, blue liners Mason Geertsen and Ryan Graves, and forward Andrew Agozzino were all placed on waivers by Colorado today.

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed two players on waivers, in centre Jean-Sebastien De and defenseman Zach Trotman. Dea is coming off a pretty good season. He recorded a career-best 50 points in 70 American Hockey League games last year, ranking second to Daniel Sprong on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s scoring list. He also played five games for the Penguins, scoring his first NHL goal against Carolina on Jan. 23. He also scored at least 18 AHL goals in each of the past three seasons.

The Dallas Stars also placed two players on the waiver wire, adding to the list of 12. The Texan team placed two blue liners on there in Reece Scarlett and Dillon Heatherington.

The Buffalo Sabres are the last team to send more than one player on the wire, as they waived both defenseman Taylor Fedun and goaltender Scott Wedgewood. The latter has been moving quite a bit since the start of last season. The New Jersey Devils traded him to the Arizona Coyotes on Oct. 28. Following a long look, they dished him to the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 21. Wedgewood finished the season with the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. Many people he could have a chance as a backup to Carter Hutton, however, this seems to prove that the Sabres believe otherwise...

“I think I’m an NHL goaltender,” Wedgewood recently said to the Buffalo News. “I think I can be a No. 1 in this league, no problem.”

The Columbus Blue Jackets have decided to pass on centre Mark Letestu, who has been finding to find his place in the NHL since he fell out of contention with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Detroit Red Wings placed Wade Megan on waivers as well today.
