Breaking: 17 NHLers join Team USA for upcoming IIHF World Championships

Plenty of star power for the Stars and Stripes this year!

Earlier today USA Hockey released a preliminary list of players who will travel to Slovakia for the upcoming IIHF World Championships, including 17 NHLers.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane has been named team captain by head coach Jeff Blashill and general manager Chris Drury.

Kane will be joined by teammate and presumable linemate Alex DeBrincat. Other big names include Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel and Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin. Vancouver Canucks rookies Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko earned spots, as well. While it appeals New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider will get the starter’s spot in net.

The tournament gets underway May 10th from Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.
