Breaking: 21-year-old former first overall pick has suffered another concussion.

When a National Hockey League player suffers a bruise or breaks a bone it's usually a relatively simple process to prognosticate how long they will be out and how much the injury will impact their career in the long-term.  That is not the case when it comes to head injuries however.

On Monday the Florida Panthers announced that 21-year-old former first round draft pick Aaron Ekblad had once again suffered a concussion, potentially his third during the course of the last two seasons, and would be out for at least 7-10 days.

Aaron Ekblad will be out of the Florida Panthers lineup for at least the next week after suffering a concussion during Saturday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Coach Tom Rowe said both Ekblad and center Denis Malgin will be out seven to 10 days after both suffered concussions on separate hits during the early goings of Saturday’s second period.

The Panthers have fallen seven points back of the Maple Leafs in the race for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs, and the injury to Ekblad, their star player, may very well be the deathblow to their playoff chances this season.
