Saturday, June 17 at 3 p.m. is when the waiver/trade/signing freeze goes into effect. No one but Vegas can add any player to their team, sign an extension, place a player on waivers, or make a trade with anyone but Vegas. This freeze runs until 8 a.m. on Thursday morning.

On Saturday morning, Sportsnet’s insider Elliotte Friedman reported because of protection issues, word is Florida Panthers’ Jonathan Marchessault is potentially available. He scored 30 goals last season and has great contract.

Having not been selected in any NHL Entry Draft, on June 23, 2011, Marchessault signed his first professional contract with the New York Rangers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

He played for the Panthers, Blue Jackets and Lightning.
