It looks like we may officially be nearing the end of the Vadim Shipachyov saga. After many days of speculation, the 30-year-old forward has chosen to follow the steps of Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk, and will retire from the NHL and go back to Russia.

TSN insider Pierre LeBrun explained what the current situation is, on his Twitter account:

A few moments later, Sportsnet's Eric Engels confirmed what everyone expected:

The 30-year-old Russian only had the occasion to play three games with Vegas this season. He scored one goal and ended up with a +/- ratio of +3. He recorded 26 goals and 50 assists, good for 76 points last year with the St. Petersburg SKA, last year. Chances are he will sign a new deal with his former team as soon as his contract his terminated in North America.
