Breaking: 5 NHL teams battling for KHL defenseman.

There are rumors that five National Hockey League teams are fighting over one Kontinental Hockey League defenseman, but one team may have the inside track.

24-year-old Viktor Antipin who currently plays for the KHL's Magnitogorsk Metallurg has been rumored to be drawing interest from the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames. Antin had 6 goals and 18 assists for 24 points in 59 games this season and a plus minus rating of +10.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Sabres may have the inside track on Antipin, although it has to be said that no deal has been officially signed as of yet.

From Friedman:

Another defender, 24-year-old Viktor Antipin (also a lefty), is expected to join Buffalo. If that is the case, the Sabres won a bit of a recruiting battle...

Antipin shoots from the left and, while he is on the smaller side for a defenseman, with this level of interest from multiple NHL clubs you can bet he is NHL ready.
