BREAKING: Abdelkader Injury Report
Keystone Press

It appears the injury bug isn't satisfied enough with picking away at players donning the Detroit Red Wings jersey.

Last night, it claimed yet another victim as Justin Abdelkader is now slated to miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL, according to general manager Ken Holland:

Abdelkader collided with Vincent Trocheck of the Florida Panthers and fell awkwardly yesterday, and left the game and did not return.

This comes at an inopportune time for the Red Wings, as this past week has been especially tough on the injury front. They have had to be without the services of goaltender Jimmy Howard, Brendan Smith, Tyler Bertuzzi and now Abdelkader.

The organization will proceed to make a call-up after tonight's Grand Rapids Griffins game despite having Drew Miller available as a 12th forward. Reportedly, a defenseman might be invited to join the big club as this weekend's back-to-back games might not allow Niklas Kronwall to participate in both since head coach Jeff Blashill opts to sit him out in these situations.

More updates to follow.
