A very curious move by the Colorado Avalanche has led to rampant speculation that they have another trade in the works.

A report from Ottawa Senators reporter James Gordon of The Athletic has revealed that the Avalanche have let goaltender Andrew Hammond remain in the American Hockey League with the Belleville Senators, the AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators.

Hammond was acquired in the trade that brought star center Matt Duchene to Ottawa and Gordon believes the decision from the Avalanche to loan him to Belleville indicates that he will be traded again in short order.

"Colorado will be looking to flip him to someone else," said Gordon.

Hammond has 55 games of experience at the National Hockey League level under his belt, and a .923 save percentage and 2.32 goals against average over that stretch. Those are numbers that are likely to peak the interest of a number of NHL general managers looking to add some solid back up in the crease.

No word from Gordon on who the Avalanche may be looking to deal Hammond to.
