With all the turmoil and frustration surrounding the stagnant Chicago Blackhawks franchise, this morning’s news from the OHL should help boost spirits. Erie Otters forward and Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat has been awarded the Red Tilson Trophy as the the league’s Most Outstanding Player.

The award caps off another outstanding season for the 19 year-old. In 63 games with the Otters in 2016-17, DeBrincat scored a mind-boggling 65 goals and 127 points. It was his third campaign of 100+ points for a total of 332 points in just 191 career OHL games. Wow.

The knock on DeBrincat, of course, is his size. At just 5’7”, 170 lbs it remains to be seen whether the diminutive forward can translate his junior hockey scoring ability to the rough and tumble game of pro hockey. Given that he’s proven just about everything he can at the junior level however, he’s likely to get his first crack at pro hockey next season. Look for him to be a standout in training camp next season.
