Breaking: Another star goalie goes down after being injured by his own teammate.

This is just about worst case scenario for the New York Rangers in Game 1 of the playoffs.

In the dying seconds of the very first period Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was injured by his own teammate, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal. Staal jammed his stick into Lundqvist's mask, resulting in what is believed to have been an eye poke, one that clearly hurt Lundqvist who went down in a heap on the ice. Lundqvist would even go to the bench to get looked at before returning to his net.

When Lundqvist did return however he gave up a goal on the very first shot he faced, and it looked like he lost sight of it, this after stopping every other shot he had faced in the period. To make matters worse for the Rangers, despite returning to the net, Lundqvist did not come out for the second period after being looked at during the intermission.

It goes without saying that any sort of serious injury to Lundqvist would be devastating. Here's a look at how it all went down:

Update: Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault has just declared Lundqvist is day to day with an upper body injury on the NBC broadcast.
