Breaking: Avs make unexpected move with Hammond
Keystone Press

Former Ottawa Senators goaltender Andrew Hammond has been recalled by the Colorado Avalanche from the AHL’s Belleville Senators.

Hammond had been with Belleville on loan from the Avs since being acquired as part of the Matt Duchene trade earlier this month.

The 29-year-old goaltender has started 10 games for Belleville this season, going 5-2-1 while posting a 2.73 GAA and .919 save percentage. In 55 career games, all with the Sens, Hammond has an impressive 27-14-6 record due mostly to an incredible 20-1-2 run that earned the team an improbable 2014-15 playoff berth.

With Avs goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and Jonathan Bernier both in the team's lineup, it's unclear when Hammond will get his shot between the pipes. But you can bet that fans of the "Hamburglar" will be out in full force when he does finally make his Avs debut.
