Breaking: Avs vs Stars. Will Duchene play?
Keystone Press

The Colorado Avalanche continue their preseason schedule today as they take on the Dallas Stars from Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. But the only thing anyone can talk about heading into the tilt is the “will he or won't he" surrounding Matt Duchene.

The 26-year-old sniper has been the focus of trade rumors and speculation for over a calendar year. With training camp and the preseason finally sinking in, the thought was that pressure would be on the Avs and GM Joe Sakic to finally make a move, but with just two weeks until the opening of the NHL’s regular season, Duchene remains with the Avs.

So far, Duchene has played the part of a good teammate, trying to downplay the rumors and shift the focus so that it doesn’t become a distraction for his teammates. But now, with the Avs needing to ice a more competitive lineup against the Stars, he’ll draw into the lineup for the first time.

Check out the lineup for tonight’s game:

There you have it. For all those who said Duchene would never play for the Avs again… sorry! Now, a lot can still change between now and the Avs’ first regular season game on Oct 5th, but for now… he’s an Av.
