Breaking: Babcock announces Matthews' status for tonight
KeyStone Press

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in Quebec tonight in anticipation of their Saturday night classic against the Montreal Canadiens.

It's always an eventful night when the two teams clash, with the Canadiens getting the better of the Leafs for years, but it seems the two teams' roles have finally reversed - with Toronto having a strong season and Montreal slumping out of the gate.

The Leafs have been dominant as of late without their star forward Auston Matthews. They haven't lose a game with him out of the lineup, and while he has skated and practiced the last few days, his status has remained questionable all week.

He skated this morning at the Bell Center - and following the skate, head coach Mike Babcock revealed his best player's status for the match tonight.

The expectation was that Babcock would have a definitive answer this morning, but according to TSN's Mark Masters, Babcock seemed optimistic that Matthews would make his long-anticipated return tonight.
