The Toronto Maple Leafs have not had a team captain since trading Dion Phaneuf to the Ottawa Senators in February of 2016. The team played the entirety of the 2017-17 campaign without a captain and according to head coach Mike Babcock they’ll do the same again in 2017-18.

Leafs fans have been divided in their choice for the team’s next leader, with many feeling like 19-year-old Auston Matthews is ready for the job, while others feel he’s too young. Another candidate is Morgan Reilly who looks poised to break out as one of the best defensemen in the game this upcoming season. Still, some see the sacrifices that forward Nazem Kadri has made to his game to become a more complete player and feel that he’s best suited to wear the “C”.

What do you think, Leafs fans? Who should the next captain of the Leafs be?
