Breaking: Babcock makes major announcement about three of his defensemen
Keystone Press

The Toronto Maple Leafs are gearing up for a big match tonight at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.

Winners of three straight, the Leafs are finally playing some strong, consistent hockey, and people couldn't be happier around the organization. The wins all came without Morgan Rielly, the team's top defenseman, which is probably great news. If they keep up this play, re-inserting him into the lineup can only make things better.

Roman Polak was placed on injured reserve prior to Wednesday's game against the New York Islanders, and Ron Hainsey was a late scratch due to an illness.

With three regulars out, Toronto was forced to recall Justin Holl, who happened to score his first goal in the National Hockey League upon the promotion.

Travis Dermott also added his first. It was quite the night.

Mike Babcock announced this afternoon that neither Hainsey or Polak made the trip to MSG, but he has high hopes that they will return imminently. Same for Rielly.

Most fans will be very happy about the Rielly and Hainsey news - less so about Polak, but don't tell Babs.

And in case you missed it, Nikita Soshnikov has been loaned to the Toronto Marlies for the purpose of a conditioning stint.
