Forward David Backes will return for the Boston Bruins' home contest against the visiting Vancouver Canucks tonight.

After he practiced for two consecutive days, coach Bruce Cassidy has announced that the power-play forward is ready for his season debut. Before the start of the regular calendar, Backes was diagnosed with diverticulitis.

According to WebMd, diverticulitis is “an inflammation or infection in one or more small pouches in the digestive tract” with symptoms that include “abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and a change in bowel habits.”

We trust that he is feeling better and ready to be back in action!

In 74 games last year with the B's, Backes recorded 17 goals and 38 points.

As for Patrice Bergeron, he is said to be a game-time decision. He did take part in the morning optional skate.

Bruins fans are keeping their fingers crossed.
