If he wasn't the most reviled owner in the National Hockey League already, Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk may have just made the top of that list.

The Ottawa Senators are currently in the process of imploding before our very eyes and now a former player has spoken out about what everyone already knows, an extremely cheap owner.

Speaking on the end of his time in Ottawa recently traded center Kyle Turris placed the blame on his trade entirely at the feet of Melnyk, claiming that it was the owner who did not want to give him a new contract.

“It’s tough because I think management did want to sign me, but I think that the owner didn’t. And that was his decision.”

Instead the Senators went on to acquire Matt Duchene in a blockbuster trade deal that sent Turris to the Nashville Predators where he has continued to shine. Turris has 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 total points in 14 games and is a plus minis of +6 since being traded.

Meanwhile the only piece Ottawa acquired in the deal, Duchene, has 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in 14 games and he is a plus minus of -10 since the trade.

Things often go wrong when owners try to meddle with their teams in professional sport and this seems to be just one more example. These comments from Turris will effectively serve as gasoline being tossed to an already blazing fire.
