NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced at the league’s board of governors meetings earlier today that the league’s per team salary cap is expected to jump from $79.5 million in 2018-19 to $83 million for 2019-20. The jump of $3.5 million per team is the biggest the league has seen since the salary cap was introduced back in 2005.

Salary cap projection for next season is $83 million, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. Cap this season is $79.5 million. It’s a rough number for next season and can change to go up or down slightly, but the League has been good with these projections in the past.

This means cap strapped teams like the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks could gain some much needed flexibility this upcoming offseason.
