Breaking: Big update on the Andreas Athanasiou negotiations.

For the first time in months there is a positive update regarding the negotiations between the Detroit Red Wings and restricted free-agent forward Andreas Athanasiou.

On a recent segment of Insider Trading, TSN insider Bob McKenzie touched on the negotiations and while no deal is imminent, there are some good signs for fans hoping to see a resolution here.

"The dialogue and discussion between Darren Ferris, the agent for Athanasiou, and Detroit Red Wing general manager Kenny Holland have relly intensified over the last couple of days," said McKenzie.

While McKenzie did not seem convinced that a deal would get done, he does believe that one or another a big decision is coming from the young Red Wings center.

"You do get the feeling that something is going to break one way or the other this week. That either Athanasiou signs in Detroit and gets back to the National Hockey League, or perhaps sign with a team in Switzerland starts playing games over there."
