Breaking: Billionaire in the “advanced” stages of buying an NHL team.

There is a major shake up about to take place in the National Hockey League, and that could mean very big things for what has historically been one of the most maligned franchises in the National Hockey League.

According to a breaking news report from National Hockey League insider Craig Morgan it appears that the Arizona Coyotes are in the advanced stages of being sold once again. Now that may not come as all that big of a shock to those who have closely monitored the situation in Arizona, however the bigger story here is not the fact that the Coyotes will once again have a transfer in ownership but rather who it is that will be purchasing the team this time around. According to Morgan's report the Coyotes are on the verge of being purchased by billionaire Alex Meruelo, something that has to be taken as extremely good news for long suffering fans of that organization.

Morgan reached out to the Coyotes for comment on his report and although the organization would not confirm the sale, something they of course will not do until everything has been finalized, they did acknowledge the information that Morgan has received from his sources.

"What I can confirm right now is that Alex Meruelo is very interested in purchasing the Coyotes," said Coyotes president Ahron Cohen as per The Athletic. " Alex’s track record of strong business success certainly precedes him – and it makes him a great candidate to help our team build upon the positive momentum we have established over the past year. We will keep all the members of Our Pack updated on important milestones moving forward."

The Coyotes just barely missed the playoffs this season in spite of being decimated by injuries throughout the season, and on a limited budget no less. An injection of cash from an owner with extremely deep pockets could pay huge dividends for general manager John Cayka, who has had to make the best out of a bad situation for several years now.

It is unclear how this will impact the Coyotes bid for a new arena, however according to Morgan Cohen remains committed to keeping the team in Arizona for the foreseeable future.
