There is an unusually large scouting presence at one of the National Hockey League's games this evening.

According to a report from Murray Pam of Sporting News Canada, scouts from twenty-two different NHL teams have showed up to watch the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings do battle on Thursday night.

That report has now been confirmed by Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch and he also added that he believes "something is brewing," Supporting Garrioch's claim that there is definitely something afoot here, the fact that there are 11 other games on the schedule this evening for the NHL, yet the majority of teams opted to have a presence at one game.

It's unclear who either reporter believes is the focus of the interest this evening, however Pam has added an interesting little detail that leads us to believe the Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks may be looking to play a role here. According to Pam both of those organizations have two scouts in attendance rather than just the one.

The Senators have come up in trade rumors as of late with players like Kyle Turris and Chris Wideman, and considering that this will be Turris' first game back from injury, the timing is certainly curious.

As for Detroit they have not been the subject of trade rumors following the signing of forward Andreas Athanasiou and the subsequent trade that sent Riley Sheahan to the Pittsburgh Peguins. That being said there is a belief that defenseman Mike Green could be a trade target this season given his expiring contract, so potentially he is a point of interest tonight as well.

We will be bringing you more information on this story as it develops.
