BREAKING: Blashill Names His Starter

Head coach Jeff Blashill has officially named his starting goaltender for tomorrow night's matchup as the Detroit Red Wings take on the Buffalo Sabres at the First Niagara Center.

Jimmy Howard will get the nod, as his 1.85 goals against average and .940 save percentage have him ranked in the top-10 of the league in both categories, despite a 4-5 record.

While Petr Mrazek will watch yet another game from the bench, it's clear that Howard has emerged as the number one goaltender over the course of the last few weeks. A struggling Red Wings team, who will be without defenseman Alexey Marchenko for a few weeks, needs to figure out a way to start piling on wins as they look to avoid a fifth consecutive loss.

The return of Thomas Vanek will help, though he recently told reporters that he is not looking to be "a hero". Moreover, Anthony Mantha has finally looked like he belongs in the NHL as he has two points in his last three games while almost adding a few more tallies to his name by firing four shots on net in his last game.
