Breaking: Blues goalie Johnson claimed off waivers

It’s been a tough season for the St. Louis Blues and goaltender Chad Johnson. The 32 year old netminder was signed as a 1B option behind 1A goaltender Jake Allen this past offseason, but with just two wins in 10 starts and with a bloated 3.55 goals against average and anemic .884 save percentage, the Blues elected to walk away from Johnson yesterday, placing him on waivers.

Well, luckily for Johnson he’ll get a fresh start as he was claimed by the Anaheim Ducks at noon ET today.

Odd move really as the Ducks already have a solid tandem with John Gibson and Ryan Miller, but if nothing else Johnson gives the team some flexibility between the pipes.

UPDATE: The Ducks have announced that backup Ryan Miller will be out of the lineup for the next six weeks with a sprained knee ligament. Suddenly, the Johnson waiver claim makes a lot of sense.

The veteran of 183 games has bounced around lately, playing with the Buffalo Sabres last season and the Calgary Flames the season before. He's also spent time with the New York Islanders, Boson Bruins, Arizona Coyotes and New York Ranger organizations, as well.
