The Winnipeg Jets were trying their hardest to tie the game late in the third period agains the St. Louis Blues, when everything stopped on the ice.

Head coach Paul Maurice and the rest of the Jets' crew were wondering why the game had stopped, but it was quickly revealed that the Blues threw a towel on the ice to get the attention of the referees to halt the contest.

The Blues needed to stop the game because defenseman Robert Bortuzzo found himself heavily bleeding from one of his wrists after a heavy shift on the ice when Jets forward Adam Lowry bumped into him and both men fell on the ice. It appears that one of the skates caught Bortuzzo in the wrist, who did not realize he was cut in the heat of the action.

However, when he headed back the bench, trainers noticed he was bleeding and felt the need to urgently stop the contest to allow Bortuzzo to cross the ice to head to the visiting team's dressing room, which isn't connected to a tunnel behind the bench at the Bell MTS Place.

Many hockey insiders reported that there was a lot of panic on the Blues' bench upon seeing Bortuzzo's injury. The blue liner did not waste time heading out for repairs as he was seen running down the tunnel to get help.

*** UPDATE : The defenseman is a real soldier. With a few minutes left in the game, Bortuzzo was back on the bench with his teammates.

Quick stitches and he's back.
