If you're a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks this is your worst nightmare all over again.

In a situation that may very closely resemble the one that sent Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad to the Columbus Blue Jackets, another young breakout star, Artemi Panarin, is reportedly seeking a big time deal from Chicago.

From Blackhawks insider Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune:

A source said Panarin is seeking a six-year deal worth more than $6 million per season, a figure that could be problematic for a Hawks team that already has eight players with caps hits of more than $4 million per season, including Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each at $10.5 million.

It's a number the Blackhawks may not be able to match, and the last time a player made this kind of demand, general manager Stan Bowman promptly responded by shipping him off to one of the worst teams in the NHL.

Panarin will look to continue to impress this season, potentially driving up his value even further, putting the Blackhawks in a very difficult position albeit with plenty of time to work towards a resolution. Stan Bowman wouldn't handicap the odds one way or the other, and refused to put a timetable on the talks.

“Each negotiation is different,” Bowman said. “I wouldn’t put any timetables or handicap it one way or another. It will get done when it gets done.”
