Breaking: Bruins place Windsor native Matt Beleskey on waivers
Keystone Press

After much speculation from Boston Bruins fans and analysts last night, the team has made it official and placed veteran forward Matt Beleskey on waivers today.

The 29-year-old forward was signed to a five-year, $19.8 million contract by the Bruins in 2015 after a breakout 22 goal season with the Anaheim Ducks in 2014-15. Since then he’s managed only 18 goals in a Bruins uniform and has frequently watched the team’s games from the press box as a healthy scratch.

Due to his $3.8 million annual cap hit it’s expected that Beleskey will pass through waivers unclaimed and report to the team’s AHL affiliate the Providence Bruins.

Born in Windsor, Ontario, Beleskey grew up in small Midhurst, Ontario and played his his minor hockey for the Barrie Icemen AAA program of the OMHA's Eastern AAA League. From there he’d go on to star for the OHL’s Belleville Bulls along with P.K. Subban and Shawn Matthias before being drafted in the 4th round (112th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Ducks.
