Breaking: Bruins sign Stempniak to PTO
Zuma Press

Although he attended camp with the team on a professional tryout in September and was still hanging around town, Lee Stempniak did not earn a contract with the Boston Bruins.

However, the veteran forward did sign a PTO with the Bruins' farm club from the American Hockey League in Providence.

After spending most of last season in the minors, playing one game with the Carolina Checkers, it sure seems more and more likely that his NHL career is coming towards an end.

He performed well enough in Bruins camp to make some believe that he would earn a spot on the team and possibly crack the roster on the bottom six in Boston. Stempniak is just a year removed from a 16-goal, 40-point campaign in Carolina, however, it did not convince the Bruins.

He might be able to impress them and get their attention from Providence.

On other news, the Bruins are getting ready to take on the Ducks later tonight in Anaheim. Some mild tweaks have been made to the lineup by head coach Bruce Cassidy, however, the offensive lines have remained the same.

From last game's lineup, it feels like Torey Krug will now be paired with Brandon Carol, while Kevan Miller is on the last defensive pairing with John Moore. Jaroslav Halak is expected to start in between the pipes.

Projected lineup for tonight:

Marchand-Bergeron-Heinen
Cehlarik-Krejci-DeBrusk
Kuraly-Acciari-Wagner
Nordstrom-Frederic-Backes

Chara-McAvoy
Krug-Carlo
Moore-Miller

Halak
